Red Cross volunteers in Virginia are doing everything they can to provide comfort and care to persons displaced by the storm. Here, volunteer Sheila Smith entertains 3 children evacuated to the shelter in the wake of Hurricane Harriet. The children were vacationing with their grandparents in Virginia Beach when the storm hit. At home, their mother worried for their safety, but was able to confirm that her children were safe through the redcross.org “safe and well” portal that allows families to connect with loved ones separated by the storm. Until they can make it home, Red Cross volunteers are ensuring that all evacuees are profided food, shelter, and in this case, a little bit of extra TLC.
