After a long day, a group of race fans are sharing a light-hearted moment in the midst of Hurricane Harriet. This hardy group from Daniels, West Virginia made the 5 hour drive to Richmond, expecting a weekend of fun at the track, but instead wound up in the path of the Category 4 storm.
“As die-hard race fans, we know how to pack for a trip to the track,” said Jamie Bob Devlin. “We have all the usual fun supplies, but we also knew enough about staying safe and being prepared to pack some essential items in our rig.” Jamie and the rest of the crew had to suddenly evacuate from their RV at the Richmond International Speedway to a Red Cross Shelter a few miles away. They brought blankets, a battery operated radio, and enough food and water to last them through the weekend.
The group from the Mountain State are particularly proud that they gave blood just the day before, at a Red Cross blood drive in their local community. They went to the blood drive to mark the inaugural run of the Fenway-Roush Red Cross Car, driven by Greg Biffle at the Richmond oval.
“We had no idea that our donation of blood would be so critical in the face of this immense disaster,” said Devlin.
